It's supposed to be pretty much a tributary thing.
Communities, especially families, want to have something to help them cope and remember the lost or damaged lives of their fighters. The warrior instinct is in all of us. From a greater perspective, Veterans Day is not just about paying homage to your ancestors and forefathers who served and risked their lives to "protect the nation", but a way to honor the aspect of humanity that has always been resilient and frontlining its determined motivation to survive. Humans know by know that we should remember history to avoid repeating it. People in general are very sensitive when it comes to such matters, so it's best to just avoid contextualizing their legacy as if just "propaganda" in front of them. As for who controls the militia and the defense system of our world and what their interests truly are, that's another thing, even if interrelated. There is a lot of spiritual and emotional logic in these tributes and traditions, and I don't dismiss it as nothing; they are here for a reason, whether to mark a new cycle, or otherwise.
Sadly in this world there are nations who see the new generation, procreation and children as just assets to assure a family's wealth by working their asses off cramming at school for many years and get a high paying job, whether military-associated or not, and as supply for the government who seems to depend heavily on its people. Without a Peoples there is no Government. That's where I see a problem with it. No one should be conscripted and mandatorily drafted, or be cannon fodder. Ever. We are humans. Fighting should always be, a choice. The aesop remains as a consequence what is picked as the final decision, long term results are chosen by us and our alliance with the cosmos and nature. The problem you observe is a tendency for governments to lure new humans in their workforce in the form of a codependent relationship ("we can't sustain ourselves without you, so here's your life plan").
There's also a problem with obsessive over-militarization. We have learned a whole lot from the Orion wars and spiritual warfare. Always be on guard. Be prepared. Hence prepper psychology.
I'm still disappointed by the fire mentioned in the last post I made.
